How to read the live option chain

5 min read

The option chain is the heart of MarketsEasy — a live call/put strike table for any index or F&O stock, with OI analytics, PCR, max pain and AI overlays layered on top. Here is how to read it like a desk trader.

Pick a symbol

Click the symbol picker at the top. You can type into the Search symbol or company box (for example “TATA”) and pick from the typeahead, or tap one of the Popular chips — NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY, SENSEX, RELIANCE and more. Your last symbol is remembered for next time.

Choose an expiry and strike range

  1. 1Use the expiry pills to select a date (the overflow dropdown holds later expiries).
  2. 2Set the Strikes filter to show 5, 10, 15, 20 or all strikes around the at-the-money level — fewer strikes keeps the view focused.
  3. 3Turn on LIVE 30s (desktop) to auto-refresh the chain every 30 seconds during market hours.

A source badge shows the live status of the feed. The chain streams live NSE data during market hours.

Read the summary cards

Above the table, the summary cards give you the headline read in seconds: spot price, PCR, max pain, total call OI and total put OI. PCR (put-call ratio) hints at positioning bias; max pain is the strike the index tends to gravitate toward at expiry.

Read the strike table

Each row is a strike, with calls (CE) on one side and puts (PE) on the other. Key columns are OI, OI change, volume, IV, LTP and bid/ask, with OI bars for quick visual scanning. Large OI build-up on a strike often marks support (puts) or resistance (calls).

Use the AI and expiry-day overlays

On the option chain you can open Gamma Blast AI analysis to read expiry-day gamma zones, and near expiry an Expiry Day Signals panel appears with concrete setups. These are AI features and count against your daily AI quota; everything else on the page — the chain, PCR, max pain, charts — is free.

Open the strike-level OI charts (OI distribution, IV smile, OI change, premium curve) from the chart icons to see the shape of positioning, not just the numbers.

Which symbols are supported?

All NSE indices (NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY), SENSEX, and F&O-eligible stocks like Reliance. Use the search box to find any supported symbol.
